Surf Pediatrics and Medicine offers care to patients of all ages for preventative medicine; as well as management of acute and chronic health conditions. We provide health care to a large geographic area; serving families not only in Dare County but also bordering counties in Eastern North Carolina. Surf Pediatrics and Medicine is focused on delivering patient centric care that is a model of health care which aims to improve the quality and efficiency of care. Our three-tiered mission is to:
* Provide accessible quality medical care with a personal care management team promoting a long-term partnership for preventative, acute and chronic disease management needs
* Promote an environment for shared decisions and effective communication so patients and their families can make informed choices; and in turn, empowering patients to take control of their health
* Involvement in quality-based innovations and community-based health programs to ensure that the families of Dare County and the surrounding region have access to services that will support their good health and well-being.
Surf Pediatrics and Medicine has three offices located in Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, and Kitty Hawk. The Nags Head office focus on pediatric and adolescent care; while the Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk office is dedicated to seeing patients from birth to geriatric. The practice has been recognized as a Level III Patient Centered Medical Home by the National Committee for Quality Assurance at all three locations.
Our Pediatric Providers
Dr. Christian Lige has been serving this community for over 20 years. He graduated from University of Delaware with finance major and received his medical degree from St. Georges Medical University. Upon completion of his pediatric residency at Pitt Memorial Hospital/East Carolina University, he and his family decided to make the Outer Banks their home. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of NC Medical Society; serves as an attending at the Outer Banks Hospital and active board member of the Dare County Department of Public Health Board. Past services also include Dare County Children and Youth Partnership board member and participant in the NC Community Practitioner Programs’ Innovative Practice Program.
Kellie Flock PA-C graduated from James Madison University with a major in health sciences and a minor in public health. She went on to pursue her degree as a physician assistant and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Pennsylvania College of Technology's Physician Assistant program. Kellie joined the Surf Pediatrics and Medicine's team in the fall of 2009. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and a member of the NC Medical Society.
Both Dr. Lige and Kellie Flock are fluent in Spanish.
Our Family Medicine & Internal Medicine/Pediatric Providers
Dr. Phillip Austin graduated Magna Cum Laude from the East Carolina University Communications program. He went on to pursue a medical degree and completed his Family Medicine residency from East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine. He is a member of Alpha Omega, Alpha medical honor society, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the NC Medical Society. Dr. Austin joined the practice in July 2013 and his focus is providing an integrative family-centered approach.
Dr. Jennifer Halloran is originally from West Virginia and received her medical degree from the West Virginia University School of Medicine. Upon completion of her residency at Christiana Care Health System in Delaware, she moved to the Outer Banks and has served this community for over 11 years. Dr. Halloran is dual-trained and board certified in both Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. She joined the Surf Pediatrics and Medicine team in January of 2014. Dr. Halloran enjoys the full spectrum of medicine, including prevention and care of acute and chronic diseases for ages birth to adulthood. Her focus is on primary prevention of chronic disease through early screenings and wellness initiatives. In her spare time she enjoys traveling with her husband and three daughters, participating in the OBX running club, and relaxing on the Nags Head beaches.
Todd Feltz PA-C grew up in West Virginia and graduated from Alderson-Broaddus College in the medical science/Physician Assistant Program. He has been board certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants since 1995 and is a fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. Todd worked as a primary care provider in western North Carolina before moving to the Outer Banks in 2007 where he worked in the emergency medicine/urgent care field. In January 2014, Todd joined our medical team. Todd is excited to get back to his love of providing family practice services while continuing to serve the Outer Banks community. Outside of medicine, his interests include spending time with his wife and two children, enjoying outdoor activities and watching his kid’s soccer games and dance programs.
Erin Caffrey PA-C, a native of Richmond, Virginia, received her bachelor's degree in athletic training at James Madison University. She went on to earn a master's degree in athletic training at Indiana University and spent four years working as a Certified Athletic Trainer. Erin returned to James Madison University to complete their Physician Assistant Program and has been providing primary care services since 2014. After spending many childhood summers vacationing here, Erin and her husband Kevin are excited to finally call the Outer Banks their home and she joined the Surf Pediatrics and Medicine team in 2015. Erin's medical interests include sports medicine, concussion treatment, chronic disease management, healthy lifestyle promotion, and overall patient
education and empowerment.
The function of Surf Pediatrics and Medicine is to provide patients and parents with encouragement, education and support while providing good medical care for you and your family during illness and throughout their healthy development.
Our practice website is intended to provide general information about office policies and protocols; links to educational resources and self management tools; and can be used as a tool by the patient and their families to provide/update medical information, request appointments and prescription refills, review test results, and submit billing questions and other non-urgent questions.
